Description

·         Provides onsite shift oversight, control and documentation of licensed waste processing operations and equipment at an EnergySolutions facility in accordance with system and facility requirements. Serves as a technical expert on operating procedures, processes and requirements and equipment operations and limitations. Monitors system displays, programmable logic controls and instrumentation during operations and interprets system indications.

·         Operates the control room at an EnergySolutions waste processing facility to process a broad range of radioactive waste materials. Maintains system balance, observes monitors and readouts and makes operational adjustments to control actions such as feed, conveyor, draft fan and stack. Ensures that—within the assigned process area—license compliance, conduct of operations and procedural compliance are maintained during operations. These tasks are necessary to ensure smooth company operations, compliance with company policies and procedures and site permits and customer requirements being met.

·         Receives oral and/or written instructions from the shift supervisor. Reads and interprets equipment manuals and waste material processing specifications.

·         Leads, trains, develops and directs the efforts of others as required to facilitate the operations process and to maintain employee qualifications. Works as a member of the team maintaining skills and qualifications up to date. Provides backup support to other operations as necessary.

·         Directs technicians to take performance readings and to make operational adjustments that are not adjustable from the control room. Coordinates efforts of the entire team to ensure continuous operation and uses a two-way radio as necessary.

·         Performs preventive maintenance on process equipment and systems and assists with major repairs/overhauls when necessary. Troubleshoots faulty plant equipment and performs rounds to verify plan equipment and status.

·         Maintains logs, records and reports to ensure the identification of materials throughout the process. Operates a computer to update information and records accordingly.

·         Wears full radiation dress clothing and equipment when working in contamination zones.

·         Follows all safety rules and regulations. Maintains a clean and orderly work area.

·         Participates in procedure development and revision, job hazard analysis and safety walkdowns as applicable.

·         Monitors and operates facility equipment using normal, abnormal and emergency operating procedures as required.

·         Operates equipment under the direction of a Test Engineer, the Test Operations Manager or a Shift Operations Manager in support of testing, commissioning and operations, as required by location.

·         Operates equipment within the bounds of the Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) as applicable.

·         Replenishes consumables and performs decontamination and housekeeping duties.

·         Maintains all required qualifications.

·         When scheduled, performs the duties of a Boiler Attendant per the boiler variance Systems Operation Manual.

·         Monitors boilers as Remote Station Personnel per the boiler variance Systems Operation Manual while in the control room.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

·         Effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

·         Effective organizational and interpersonal skills

·         Strong attention to detail

·         Basic computer skills, including the ability to operate equipment using the Human Machine Interface. Basic knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.

·         Ability to pass a pre-employment/hazwoper physical

·         Ability to successfully pass a fundamentals entry examination

·         Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access status at the facility

·         Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

·         Ability to obtain RadWorker (includes Industrial Health & Safety, Security and Hazmat) qualification within 2 weeks after hire

·         Ability to obtain Control Room Operator qualification within 6 months after hire

·         Ability to obtain Forklift (5,500 to 8,800 lbs) and Crane (45 ton and 7.5 ton) qualifications within 3 months

·         Ability to work a 12 hour shift.  Crew rotation schedule is 4 days on and 4 days off and crews rotate between Day and Night shift every three months.

·         Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

·         Ability to work in extreme weather temperatures (hot or cold)

·         Ability to comprehend procedure and work package instructions as applicable. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

·         Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

·         Ability to stand, walk, sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Ability to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and talk or hear.

·         Ability to wear a full faced respirator and protective clothing and other protective equipment

·         Ability to identify and distinguish colors (color vision). Must be able to identify operation status of equipment on PC screen and interpret safety signs.

·         Ability to perform highly repetitive motions with fingers, hands, and wrists

·         Ability to work with machinery, material handling equipment, heavy equipment, power tools, and moving objects

·         Ability to effectively communicate; speaking, reading, understanding, writing and hearing clear English; pass audiogram in hearing conservation program as required by location

·         Required qualifications: bloodborne pathogens, crane operator, hazardous waste worker, radiation worker, and respirator medical qualification

·         Ability to work around ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, corrosives, mercury, dust, paint, particulate generation, solvents, and welding

·         Ability to wear protective equipment such as: fall protection harness, goggles, ear plugs, hard hat, gloves, steel toe boots, and full body protective clothing

Minimum Qualifications and Years of Experience

Education

·         High School diploma or GED

·         Associate’s degree or equivalent from an accredited two year college or technical school preferred

 

Certifications

·         Radioactive material control room operator certification required

 

Required Experience

·         A minimum of 2 years of operations experience

·         2 years experience working in an industrial setting

·         None
