Description

Job Description/Tasks/Responsibilities

·         Performs a wide range of facility, equipment and machine operations associated with an EnergySolutions site/program/ project/function and or facility process(es). Ensures compliance with EnergySolutions policies and procedures and with local, state and federal regulations. Performs operations work as part of a team of semi-skilled and skilled workers (e.g., laborers; decontamination workers; and facility, equipment and process operators).

·         Operates a variety of equipment: (1) hand and power tools; (2) small, fixed-facility (light) equipment; (3) medium weight equipment; (4) heavy equipment and (5) cranes. Decontaminates equipment, machinery and work areas.  Uses equipment to perform construction, demolition, material handling, waste treatment and soil remediation work. These tasks are necessary to maintain a healthy and productive workforce, to ensure smooth company operations and to ensure customer requirements are met.

·         Monitors and operates equipment using normal, abnormal and emergency operating procedures. Operates equipment within the bounds of the Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) as applicable.

·         Operates equipment under the direction of a Test Engineer, the Test Operations manager or a Shift Operations Manager in support of testing, commissioning and operations as applicable, according to location.

·         Works under the direction of the Operations Foreman as applicable, according to location.

·         Complies with all local, state and federal health and safety regulations and site health and safety requirements.

·         Complies with all requirements for wearing personal protective equipment while performing job duties.

·         Participates in procedure development and revision, job hazard analysis and safety walkdowns as applicable.

·         Uses a crane to load and unload supplies, equipment and machinery to and from vessels. Hoists concrete or steel, digs out and lifts dirt, moves large containers of materials and knocks down walls with a wrecking ball.

·         Is responsible for maintaining inventory supplies and keeping rig inventories.

·         Helps develop lift plans. Operates heavy equipment needed to support heavy lifts.

·         Communicates with other workers on the ground via two-way radio or hand signals.

·         Operates all types of machinery as directed.

·         May perform the work of other equipment operators as required.

·         May lead and direct the work of other equipment operators as needed.

·         May provide training to other equipment operators as needed and reviews the work of others as needed.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

·         Ability to read computer screens and printed documents and to operate small equipment

·         Basic computer skills, including the ability to operate equipment using HMI

·         Ability to successfully pass a fundamentals entry examination as applicable

·         Detailed knowledge of facility processes, operations and equipment

·         Detailed knowledge of machine construction, maintenance and deconstruction

·         Demonstrated ability to perform maintenance and repairs on fixed, small-scale industrial equipment used to perform job duties

·         Demonstrated ability to operate electronics and computers to diagnose and repair machines used to perform job duties

·         Demonstrated ability to handle  more complex work and schedule tasks assigned to Operator 1, 2 or 3 employees as appropriate

·         Ability to develop and communicate work steps required to maintain and repair medium weight equipment

·         Working knowledge of wastewater treatment plants and collection systems (if applicable to work performed)

·         Working knowledge of rigging practices (if applicable to work performed)

·         Detailed knowledge of heavy industrial equipment, machines and construction work and working knowledge of process operations such as batch plant, rotary and shredder operations

 

Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions

·         Strong physical condition and advanced hand-eye coordination

·         Ability to comprehend procedure and work package instructions as applicable

·         Ability to perform physically demanding work

·         Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, carry, push, pull up to 25 pounds; handle, grip, and reach above or below shoulder

·         Ability to use hands and feet to accomplish tasks as assigned

·         Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend/stoop, crouch, squat/kneel, twist at the waist and balance

·         Ability to effectively communicate; speaking, reading, understanding, writing and hearing clear English; pass audiogram in hearing conservation program as required by location

·         Normal vision (with or without correction)

·         Ability to perceive depth and adjust focus

·         Ability to see close and distance; peripheral vision; basic hand/eye coordination

·         Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and environments wherein there is exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, chemicals and mechanical and electrical hazards

·         Ability to work inside an office, outside and in extreme temperatures

·         Ability to perform highly repetitive motions with fingers, hands, wrists, shoulders, and legs

·         Ability to work with machinery vibration, power tools, moving objects, and slippery/uneven walking surfaces

·         Ability to work while wearing chemical resistant coveralls, respiratory protection, goggles, and steel toe boots

·         Ability to work alone and work with others; perform under deadline pressure

·         Ability to operate equipment and drive a vehicle

·         Forklift, track hoe, and dump truck certification

·         Certified hazardous waste worker, radiation worker, and respirator medical qualification

Minimum Qualifications and Years of Experience

Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Requirements

Education

·         High School diploma or GED

Certifications

·         Ability to obtain applicable qualification card required (for a locomotive, excavator, compactor, bulldozer, batch plant, rotary, shredder, yardmaster or grader operator)

·         Valid driver’s license with a clean record required. Evidence of insurability required.

·         National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) certification as required by work location or qualification per EnergySolutions crane operating policies and procedures and Crane operator license required as dictated by work location

·         For jobs located at the Salt Waste location, must be qualified as a Salt Waste Processing Facility/Parsons Technology Center (PTC) Operator

·         A minimum of 18 months of experience as a heavy equipment operator
